Let's Talk Weight Loss Snacks - Part 2

If you remember, last week I posted about the damaging ingredients and effects of Atkins. If you missed it, you can read it here. Today I am going to bring SlimFast through the mud. Please know that if you are using any of these weight loss strategies or if you have had success with any of them, I am not criticizing your decisions. My job is merely to report the truth in order to raise awareness.

Without further ado, let's get into the post.

SlimFast

The way SlimFast works is by replacing calorie-filled meals with lower calorie snacks and shakes. By lowering the calories one consumes, you are then able to lose weight easier because your body starts to burn off fat stores instead of glycogen produced by carbs.

The dangers of limiting your calorie intake, however, can be serious so it's important to be constantly working with a health specialist to keep you on track. Proper amounts of glycogen stored in the body from healthy carbohydrates help your brain, kidneys, heart, bones, and nervous system work properly. Long-term restriction can cause failing of these functions.

Metabolism is the main function of the body that helps break down calories and lose weight. Restriction of caloric intake can lower your metabolism making it more difficult to keep weight off. Not only this, but restriction in calories can also cause nutritional deficiencies (vitamin A, B vitamins, calcium, and magnesium) which can hinder proper bone formation and organ function. I'll be writing a post on caloric restriction next Wednesday for further reading.

Some of the products are also sweetened with nutrative and non-nutrative sweeteners (glucose, fructose, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, sucrose, and sugar alcohols), which have damaging effects on their own.

Whenever you see soy, corn, or wheat in a product that does not specifically say that they are organic, it means that the manufacturer is using GMO ingredients.

"GMO (genetically modified organisms) foods are basically made in a laboratory. DNA from one species is transferred to another creating a completely new plant. Unfortunately, this creates genetic problems within the organism that can cause immediate as well as long-term health issues.

A study was done on rats that were fed GMO potatoes showing the females giving birth to stunted and/or sterile babies. Their organs were also beginning to fail as a result." - A Dancer's Diary

Unfortunately, I found that SlimFast had even worse ingredients than Atkins. Not only are they adding many artificial ingredients, they are also adding ingredients that cause weight gain and cancer. I would highly recommend that you avoid this company as eating these snacks will wreck your health more than you know. As always, please contact me if you have any questions or if you have anything to add.

Until next time,

Amanda
